Liverpool, Norwich City, Aston Villa and the worst teams to reach and win major finals

Defeat to Russia was compensated by qualification for the last eight, in which Greece managed to defeat the defending champions and tournament favourites in a shock 1-0 win. The Greeks proceeded to stun the rest of Europe by beating hosts Portugal in the opening game and then drawing against Spain. In the final Rafa Benitez’s team were taken apart by AC Milan, trailing 3-0 at half-time, before pulling off one of the all-time great comebacks, scoring three in just six second half minutes. St Helens lay in wait for the Rhinos, as the two went head-to-head in a Grand Final for the fourth time in five seasons. Having scraped past Austrian side Grazer AK, losing the second leg 1-0 at Anfield for a narrow 2-1 aggregate win, the Reds squeezed through on goal difference in the group stages after losing twice, away to Monaco and Olympiacos. After drawing level, they somehow held on for a penalty shoot-out victory against all the odds, but were only able to defend their trophy after UEFA agreed to let them join the next season’s preliminary stages, having failed to finish in the Premier League’s top four.

Norwich CITY, 1985 LEAGUE CUP WINNERS. In doing so, Villa became the worst team to win a European Cup when taking into account where they finished domestically, having ended that year’s First Division season in 11th place, having lost as many games (15) as they won. In the semis Leeds faced regular season champions Warrington, who had finished 13 points clear of them, but were powerless to stop the Rhinos edging a tight clash 26-24. After losing 11 of their 27 regular season games, the Rhinos were forced to enter the play offs at the qualifying and elimination round,beating Hull FC to earn a place in the preliminary play off, where they overcame a Huddersfield team, that had finished a place above them. The only thing they were favourites for was to finish bottom of a tough group containing hosts Portugal, Spain (ranked third in the world) and Russia (two places above Greece at 31). They only qualified for the tournament after finishing fourth in the Premier League the previous season, 30 points behind champions Arsenal and 15 behind third-placed Man United (by contrast, Liverpool were 15 points above 14th place). LIVERPOOL, 2005 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WINNERS

Not all champion teams look like odds on winners, however, as talkSPORT recalls

Having surprised everyone by winning the First Division title in 1981, Aston Villa won the European Cup at the first attempt, sneaking past favourites Bayern Munich in the final. A Peter Withe goal gave them a narrow, yet glorious win in the Rotterdam showpiece, belying their mediocre mid-table placing at home.

Greece started the European Championships in 2004 as 150/1 rank outsiders to win their first ever major competition. Like the previous three meetings, Leeds emerged triumphant, while the two best teams from the regular season, Warrington and Wigan, could only look on in envy.

When Arsenal faced Birmingham City in the 2011 League Cup final, many people felt it was a forgone conclusion that they would end their six-year trophy drought and were shocked when Blues emerged with the silverware. Villa had edged past Icelandic minnows Valur in the first round, then Eastern European opposition Dynamo Berlin on away goals, before knocking out Dynamo Kiev and squeaking past Anderlecht in the semi final with a single strike from Tony Morley early in the first leg. While the Robins finished second in Division Three that season, Arsenal were going great guns near the top of Division One and were stunned to lose 3-1 in extra time to the lowest-placed team to win the League Cup.

Despite winning one of the most dramatic finals in football history, Liverpool were arguably the worst team to be crowned European champions. Mind you, at least they had some silverware to console them, unlike the team they beat to lift the cup losing finalists Sunderland were also relegated from the top flight that season.

In 2011 Leeds Rhinos became the first rugby league team to finish fifth in Super League’s regular season, then go on to be crowned Grand Final winners. Under the management of German Otto Rehhagel, the Greek’s dour defensive tactics were enough to see off Czech Republic en route to a final rematch with hosts Portugal. In 1969, Arsenal had gone 16 years without winning a trophy and were even bigger favourites to lift the cup, facing Third Division Swindon Town in the final. Again, the Greeks kept a clean sheet to stun the Portuguese with a 1-0 win, confounding once again their status as 13th seeds in a 16-team tournament.

After being thrashed by New Zealand and losing to Tonga in the pool stages, nearly blowing a 16-point lead against a poor England team, then only just crawling over the line against a 14-man Wales side in the semi final, France have been labelled as the worst team to reach a Rugby World Cup final.

Swindon Town, 1969 LEAGUE CUP WINNERS

The last team to achieve the unwanted distinction of winning a major trophy and being relegated from the top flight before Birmingham City (2011 Carling Cup/Premier League relegation) was Norwich City, who followed up their 1985 League Cup success at Wembley by being relegated from the old First Division. The Reds found their form in the knockout stages, just edging Chelsea 1-0 over two legs of the semi final, despite finishing 37 points behind the Blues in the Premier League

Pustular Psoriasis Can Be Very Distressing

There have even been a few cases where the Psoriasis did not return after the proper treatment.

Pustular Psoriasis is considered to be one of the rarer forms of the disease but can also prove to be one of the most dangerous as it can affect the body both internally and externally.

Symptoms Of Pustular Psoriasis

Psoriasis Treatment and Cures is not that easy as you may think, particularly as there are many types of Psoriasis. While von Zumbusch pustular psoriasis is more severe, erythrodermic psoriasis usually does not occur with a fever, chills, or other symptoms often associated with von Zumbusch pustular psoriasis.

Pustular Psoriasis Triggers

Flare ups of pustular psoriasis can be triggered by:

* calcipotriol a derivative of Vitamin D

* hypocalcemia a condition in which there is low levels of calcium in the blood

* infection

* jaundice

* phototherapy

* pregnancy

* some medicines including lithium, trazodone antidepressants, penicillin and the anti malarial drug, hydroxychlorquine

* sudden withdrawal of current steroid treatments

* sunlight. Each patient has to be evaluated by a doctor to distinguish what form of Psoriasis they may have and whether it is a mild form or chronic form of psoriasis.

Topical treatment of this disease is done with different ointments and creams. This type tends to be subacute or chronic, and the symptoms are less severe than in the generalized type. Take healthy food; avoid taking acidic food like tomatoes, coke, junk food and food that you are allergic to.

Pustular Psoriasis Treatments

* smoking tobacco

* stress

Your symptoms may be acute, long term orsomewhere in between. You may have symptoms such as headache, fever, chills, joint pain, a feeling of general discomfort or uneasiness, decreased appetite, and nausea. Plus every cure is not the same from one person to another. Individuals experiencing the symptoms of von Zumbusch pustular psoriasis should go see a doctor immediately.

As far as possible go in for natural home remedies as they don’t cause any side effects. A generalized form with acute symptoms, fever, and atoxic reaction in your tissues is known as the von Zumbuschtype. For moderate to severe psoriasis, the focus is to control the symptoms and to prevent secondary infection

Additional triggers for palmo-plantar psoriasis include:

These factors can trigger a dysfunctional response by the immune system which speeds up the skin cycle causing pustular psoriasis symptoms of pustules and skin inflammation. These areas of skin symptoms appear mostly on the trunk but also on the arms and legs. The generalized type affects your whole body with more than just skin symptoms. Pustular psoriasis is a form of the disease characterized by small pustules or blisters filled with clear or cloudy fluid. Pustular psoriasis is where small blisters appear, usually on the hands and feet and nail psoriasis where changes in the appearance and texture of the nails occur. Bath solutions, moisturizers and lotions also give better results for the treatment of this disease. However, in many cases a trigger can not be identified.

Psoriasis can be treated, however, and many have shown results of going months and years between outbreaks. Apply moisturizer creams on the affected area as it will keep the skin moist and away from dryness.

Symptoms of pustular psoriasis include white blisters surrounded by red skin, itching, and painful skin. But home remedies will be effective only if the psoriasis condition is mild

Manchester United files to list on New York Stock Exchange

The record 19-time English champions said in a filing to the Security and Exchange Commission about 16.7 million shares will be priced between $16 and $20.

The Glazers, who also own the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, also announced on Monday a seven-year shirt sponsorship deal with American car company Chevrolet, which will begin at the start of the 2014-15 season.

(AP) LONDON – Manchester United launched its New York Stock Exchange listing on Monday, hoping to raise around $330 million by selling 10 percent of the Premier League club.

The Glazers will retain control of the club through its ownership of Class B shares, which will have 10 times the voting power of the stock sold to the public.

The current United shirt sponsor, Aon, has another two seasons to run with the team in a deal that began in the 2010-11 season.

United seeks to raise funds to help reduce debt from the Glazer family’s 2005 takeover, rated at $663 million as of March 31.. But crosstown rival Manchester City, which became soccer’s biggest spender following its purchase by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, won the title on goal difference on the final day of the season.

2012 The Associated Press. The club was listed on the London Stock Exchange from 1991 until the Glazers completed a leveraged buyout valued at $1.47 billion in June 2005.

The Red Devils were on track to win their 20th league title this year, taking an eight-point lead into the final weeks of the season. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed

Andres Iniesta: Barcelona desperate to make Champions League history

The logical thing to expect having come from less is becoming more learned this year.

We would have liked to win the Supercopa but we did not play well and in a tie or final that can be costly,” continued the World Cup winner.

The Catalans enjoyed a brilliant first season under Luis Enrique, sealing a historic treble with the 3-1 win over Juventus in Mays Berlin final.

We do not know what will happen during this time. On a personal level it is incredible, he said. Everything we have achieved is impossible to imagine, but now that is over, I want to keep adding more.

No side has ever successfully retained Europes elite club competition in its current form, although Barca did win two in the space of three years with their 2009 and 2011 successes.

The midfielder won his fourth medal in Europe’s elite club competition last year and is hopeful that a fifth is a realistic prospect in 2015-16

We must keep the good feelings from last year and work to be even better. Now comes a very tough game at Atletico and the first game in the Champions League at Roma. Winning teams and players have to return to fight for everything.

I think the team should go from strength to strength. True, it is not a normal situation, but what is beyond doubt is that we must pull forward with where we are.

Iniesta, though, has been encouraged with the way 2015-16 has begun and urged the treble winners to push on despite the challenges faced by a transfer ban which means summer signings Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal will not join the first-team until January.

Andres Iniesta is confident that Barcelona can make history by becoming the first team to defend the Champions League this season.

In an incredible career, Iniesta has already won four Champions League titles and the midfielder says that tally has already surpassed his wildest expectations ahead of this campaign’s group stage clashes with Roma, Bayer Leverkusen and BATE.

I think we should be always optimistic, believing in ourselves and our colleagues. They narrowly edged their first two Primera Division matches and the Uefa Super Cup, but lost heavily to Athletic Bilbao over two legs in the Supercopa de Espana.

Iniesta is aware that history suggests Barca will be unsuccessful in their bid to defend the crown, but hopes the quality of their squad will give them every chance in 2015-16.

Iniesta is currently in Oviedo with the Spain national side as they prepare to face Slovakia in a Euro 2016 qualification clash on Saturday.

But the two league games have been very good. After what we put in last season and the whole experience, I think this has to be another great season.

We are very happy. They may not have been spectacular in terms of seeing two teams attacking and creating chances, though our level of play left us feeling very strengthened.. We live the present and I cannot say whether or not the disadvantage of not being able to sign will affect us. But we have already been knocking on the door of reaching consecutive finals before and we will try again. As with every year, we have to go step by step.

It is challenging and very difficult, but we have that goal in our mind, the Camp Nou skipper, 31, told Sport.

Retaining the Champions League has not been done by any club. For me, my team and my team-mates are the best and you have to fight for every title.
